About me, the 2016 version.
Well, here we are again. Yes, what I
do has changed…again.
After over ten years of working
with metal clay I realized I needed something more…I needed
colour. We’re not
taking a pearl here, maybe a chunk of recycled glass there…no,
we’re talking in your face, deal with
it colour. Don’t know what happened or why, it just happened.
As most of you know I’m
mainly self-taught. But a few years ago I went to Beadfest in Philadelphia
and took many classes such as soldering, forming, etc. All the classes
were great. The only one that I wasn’t crazy about was enameling.
I remember coming home and discussing the various courses I had
taken with my family and saying that of all the classes I took I
could not see myself enameling. Of course I am now
eating my words.
I am absolutely loving the colours
available to me. They make my mouth water, they make me smile and
boy do they make me long for summer (yes it’s winter as I’m
writing this). I can’t wait to see the flowers in
bloom and to hear all the birds. So in the meantime I’m creating
summer in my studio. Today I worked on
some tiny little necklaces with tiny little dragonflies on them,
all in fabulous colours. Summer.
Does this mean that I will no
longer work with metal clay? Of course not, don’t be silly.
It just means that for
the moment I am really having fun with enameling and can’t
seem to find the time to do anything else.
I will eventually be incorporating metal clay in with the enameling.
I’m hoping that my wonderful
and adventurous clients will follow me in this new direction. I
have no doubt that they
will inspire me to new heights. So hold on tight…this is going
to be fun.
